ED vs. EL: …And the WHITE SUGARS!

Is there REALLY a difference?

From the Melanated Man:

Refer to previous posts: ED vs. EL: Eating Meat, Huh?!

ED vs EL: Vegetables have Life/Light as Well ,   ED vs. EL: ‘White’ Starches and Oils

We FINALLY reach the sugar portion of this series.

It won’t be that extensive today. I’m going to get straight to the POINT.

Random thought: I need a break from the food-related posts for minute (I know you’re probably thinking the same thing.) I’m getting burned out at the moment with it. I’m so passionate about how we SHOULD be eating that I know that there is always something to throw out there that can be beneficial for my peoples.

White, refined sugar, next to meat, is our BIGGEST weakness. As mentioned many, MANY times, refined sugar is a FDA-approved DRUG.

It’s on their FOOD PYRAMID!

Does anyone even go by the food pyramid anymore?

(Side note: White, refined sugar is removed from the sugar cane, its natural source, thus changing its chemical makeup, extracting all nutrients and minerals, becoming DENATURED in the process. A BLACK MAN by the name of Norbert Rillieux actually invented the process of sugar refinement in 1846, during slavery times. Beforehand slaves would harvest the sugar cane and refine it by hand. What is even more crazy is that the SAME sugar that was refined by slaves was used to BUY AND SELL SLAVES as well. Little did the those slaves and Rillieux know that white, refined sugar would create a CATASTROPHE to their health.)

White, refined sugar is sold EVERYWHERE!

It is inserted into EVERYTHING that we eat!

Is it that REALLY that necessary a nutrient? Wait, sugar is NOT a nutrient. Right?

The-powers-that-be have saw fit that sugar is a necessary NUTRIENT (smh) for the masses, as long as you monitor your intake.

That’s the trick. Drugs are NOT essential in any way imaginable; we take them for a temporary HIGH to relieve stressors in our life, only treating the symptoms and NOT the core of the issue.

We black-melanated folks have SO MANY stressors in our lives…starting from BIRTH! Due to our reluctance to unify together as one and fight the REAL issues as a collective unit, we embrace the individualistic culture that has grown out of this parasitic, capitalistic society and hope for the best…as individuals.

Damn it I’m off topic…

During holidays I would indulge in red velvet cakes, key lime cakes, and pecan pies (I still do on RARE occasions) and sweet beverages, hoping to ease the direct (personal struggles) and indirect (overall black struggle) stresses in my life.

And of course I gained weight. And more problems.

I believe ALL of us in some form of fashion has a sugar addiction.

It’s a very, VERY, VERRRRYYY hard habit to kick.

From African Holistic Health:

“It takes four pancreas to process white sugar….White sugar stresses the pancreas, kidneys, liver, starves the brain of oxygen, causes adrenal weakness, baldness, attention deficits blindness, tooth decay, high blood pressure, allergies, bone loss, infertility, cataracts, glaucoma, nerve damage (i.e. multiple sclerosis), brain damage (Alzheimer’s), senility, kidney failure, diabetes, mood swings, hypoglycemia, hyperactivity, and arthritis. It causes cellular waste to congest the soft tissue and bones, requires large amounts of water to flush it out the system and it is one of the most addicting and harmful drug used.”

And you wonder why we need health insurance? Keep eating the standard American (becoming worldwide) diet.

(I’m pushing my kids to be doctors…or dentists.)

For those who don’t realize it (but I think you do), your health insurance companies are “in bed” with the food industry.

“White sugar robs the body of minerals and vitamins, especially Vitamin E. This robbery results in drowsiness, temper outburst, hyperactivity, mood swings, tantrums, mischievousness, delinquency, laziness, and violence.”

Vitamin E helps remove antioxidants from your body. Without it you can experience the following listed above.

We can’t just blame white sugar for black people’s overall demeanor and behavior as a people, even though we consume it large amounts DAILY.

I can. That’s what drugs do.

So what about raw sugar cane and artificial sweeteners? Shouldn’t they be a better alternative?

“Brown sugar and raw sugar is white sugar with brown caramel dye on it. Concentrated sweeteners are drugs and addicting. The other names for processed sugars are honey, maple syrup, barley or rice syrup, molasses, corn syrup, sucrose, concentrated fruit juice, pasteurized (cooked orange juice), dextrin, dextrose, maltose, dry cane juice, succanet, sorbitol, fructose, and mannitol.”

Add aspartame to the list for you Splenda lovers.

The only sugars we SHOULD be consuming is from FRESH FRUIT(and maybe some sugar cane and agave plant.)

That is the standard we SHOULD adhere to. But our tastebuds have been conditioned for a strong, sweet aftertaste for hundreds of years. And like I mentioned earlier, the PROCESSED foods we eat ALL have some amount sugar (and MSG) in it. As a collective unit through a concerted effort, it will take years to break the “white” sugar habit.

We are in a constant state of sickness, physically and mentally, because of it.

All because of this white sugar SHIT we eat.

I apologize to anyone who I may offend with these strong words. There are a many of black-melanated people that make a living selling sweets. With love and care through some HARD WORK.

And I’ve enjoyed  their products very HAPPILY as a matter of fact. I respect their craft.

But what else can you call a food that does NOTHING but destroy you, inside and out?

As Rick James would say, “White sugar is a HELL OF A DRUG!”

I don’t have all the answers and I don’t live a *perfect life so to speak, but I do understand through personal experience that certain things you put into your body is not conducive to your entire being. From the meats to our sugar intake, this eating holocaust is a complex situation for black-melanated people. It’s something similar to a rat trying to find his way out of a maze.

We have been BAMBOOZLED. And alot of us still can’t see the big picture.

With the knowledge I have so far I’m going to do my best to help those who WANT to be helped. And STILL learn more myself.

Hopefully through these last couple of weeks you learned something regarding how our eating affects our fight for true independence for blacks. I have more posts on eating coming up in the future but I want  to  switch it up little bit more and discuss the other arenas in our struggle that needs addressing as well.

Get back to the melanin and some metaphysics, and much more!!!

ED vs EL: What is Monosodium Glutamate (or MSG?)

From the Melanated Man:

What is Monosodium Glutamate, famously known as MSG?

“Monosodium glutamate is a salt of the amino acid Glutamate Acid, one of the most abundant naturally occurring non-essential amino acids (building blocks of DNA”)

Basically the salt molecule of the Glutamate Acid is a taste receptor. Glutamate acid is detected by our taste buds to signal the presence of protein in food; the purpose being to discern real food from UNREAL FOOD.

Discerning nutrition (LIGHT) over taste (A MOMENTARY PLEASURE or “HIGH.”)

Yet the food industry has figured out a way to create synthetic MSG (PROCESSED) by hydrolyzing  vegetable protein or fermentation of glucose from starchy foods like potatoes.

Remember…food nutrients extracted from their natural sources is a DRUG.

Synthetic   MSG is used in foods such as Americanized Chinese, Korean, Japanese foods as well many, many PROCESSED, REFINED, AND DENATURED FOODS sold in restaurants and your local supermarkets.

Synthetic MSG tricks your tongue into thinking that certain foods are nutritious when there isn’t ANY nutrition; it initiates your pancreas to produce insulin when it is not needed…

BECAUSE THERE ISN’T ANY NUTRITION IN THE SHIT!

Thus, your blood sugar drops due to the insulin influx.

Sounds like the beginning of Type II Diabetes, right?

What are the symptoms of consuming large amounts of MSG?

  • burning sensation in the back of the neck, forearms and chest
  • numbness in the back of the neck, radiating to the arms and back
  • tingling, warmth and weakness in the face, temples, upper back, neck and arms
  • facial pressure or tightness
  • chest pain
  • headache
  • nausea
  • rapid heartbeat
  • bronchitis (difficulty breathing) in MSG-intolerant people with asthma
  • drowsiness
  • weakness

What foods and ingredients contain high amounts of synthetic MSG?

(This is SMALL list…relatively speaking.)

Examples:

Food and beverages

  • Foods sold at FAST FOOD restaurants: ALL chicken products, ALL Sausage products, Parmesan, Ranch Dressings, Croutons, ALL Dipping Sauces, ALL Gravies, ALL Tomatoes and Mushroom soups
  • Taco Bell® – seasoned meat – contains autolyzed yeast – which contains free glutamate
  • Other menu items that contain soy sauce, natural flavors, autolyzed yeast or hydrolyzed protein which can contain up to 20% free glutamate acid – the  active part of MSG.
  • Hamburger Helper Microwave Singles®  (targeted towards children)
  • Doritos®
  • Campbell’s® soups – all of them
  • Pringles® (the flavored varieties)
  • Boar’s Head® cold cuts and most of their hot dogs
  • Progresso® Soups – all of them
  • Lipton® Noodles and Sauce
  • Lipton® Instant soup mix
  • Unilever or Knhttp://www.msgtruth.org/orr® products – often used in homemade Veggie dips.
  • Kraft® products nearly all contain some free glutamate
  • Gravy Master®
  • Cup-a-soup® or Cup-o-Noodles®
  • Planters® salted nuts – most of them
  • Accent® -this is nearly pure MSG
  • Braggs® Liquid Aminos – sold at Whole Foods
  • Hodgson Mill Kentucky Kernel Seasoned Flour®
  • Tangle extract (seaweed extract) – found in sushi rolls (even at Whole Foods)  Seaweed is what MSG was first isolated from.
  • Fish extract – made from decomposed fish protein – used now in Japanese sushi dishes – very high in free glutamate.
  • sausages – most supermarkets add MSG to theirs
  • processed cheese spread
  • Marmite®
  • supermarket poultry or  turkeys that are injected or “self-basting”
  • restaurant gravy from food service cans
  • flavored ramen noodles
  • instant soup mixes
  • many salad dressings
  • most salty, powdered dry food mixes – read labels
  • flavored potato chips
  • restaurant soups made from food service soup base or with added MSG
  • beet juice – it is used as a coloring, but MSG is manufactured from beets and the extract may contain free glutamate acid – Yo Baby – organic baby yogurt has just changed the formula to include beet extract
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • dough conditioners
  • malted barley flour – found in many supermarket breads and all-purpose flours including: King Arthur, Heckers, and Gold Medal flour
  • body builder drink powders containing protein
  • Parmesan cheese – naturally high in free glutamate
  • Medications in gelcaps – contain free glutamate acid in the gelatin
  • Cosmetics and shampoos – some now contain glutamate acid
  • Fresh produce sprayed with Auxigro in the field.

Ingredients

  • yeast extract
  • yeast food or nutrient
  • soy protein isolate
  • soy sauce
  • texture protein
  • dry milk and whey powder
  • Kombu extract
  • texture protein
  • “natural flavors” – may contain up to 20% MSG
  • carageenan
  • sodium caseinate
  • calcium caseinate
  • monopotassium glutamate
  • glutamate acid
  • gelatin
  • bouillon – any kind
  • Pectin
  • Enzyme Modified
  • Anything with “enzymes” listed
  • Anything with “seasonings” listed
  • hydrolyzed vegetable protein (found in many processed AMERICAN foods, like canned tuna and even hot dogs)
  • hydrolyzed plant protein (found in many processed AMERICAN foods, like canned tuna and even hot dogs)
  • autolyzed yeast (found in many processed AMERICAN foods, read labels)
  • malted barley
  • Protein concentrate
  • leptin

Some things to consider when you’re eating a Big Mac or Chick Fil’a Sandwich:

  • The FDA admits that MSG has been proven to induce asthma attacks in certain individuals.
  • Asthma deaths have increased with the increased use of MSG in the US food supply.
  • Childhood allergies have increased with the increased use of MSG in the US food supply.
  • Glutamate induces epileptic seizures.
  • Glutamate increases histamine response.
  • Glutamate is found in large amounts in gluten, and casein (wheat and milk proteins)
  • Both Mercury and glutamate acid are still found in certain vaccines. Vaccines are suspected of being an environmental trigger for autism in children.
  • Obesity and Type II Diabetes have increased to epidemic levels in the US in children since the introduction of MSG into the American diet.  Type II Diabetes has actually DOUBLED in the past 30 years in the U.S.

The food industry is a HUGE contradiction. I am advocate for black-melanated people growing and producing our own food; we will know WHAT and HOW our food is produced.

When you don’t have control of where your food comes from, you hold yourself hostage to the trappings of others.

But we first have to wean ourselves off this drug called MSG.

REHABILITATE! RECOVER! THEN REBUILD!

Hope this information helps you in some capacity.

ED vs EL: Parent-approved holidays for Child Drug Use

Just Say NO!

From The Melanated Man:

This is going to be short and sweet like *sugar. Yes sugar.

White sugar.

This post is sort of the prelude to the in-depth discussion I will have on sugar later. But have you wondered how people have addictions, for instance drug addictions, later in their adult life? Well it starts at an young age.

Like when you are baby.

Sugar is a government-approved drug just like *caffeine and aspartame. Any substance extracted from it’s natural and intended plant is a DRUG. That’s a little preview to the post on sugar that is on the way. Something to think on.

And as parents we let our kids have free reign to all of the chocolate, candy, cakes, AND sweet beverages they can get their hands, especially these times of the year:

Their Birthdays

Easter

Halloween

Thanksgiving

Christmas

Mardi Gras (for those familiar with it from Mobile, AL)

…AND every other day when we want to keep them quiet or when they have done something good.

We figure it’s OK to allow our child to partake of some treats ( or tricks!) so they can get a ARTIFICIAL HIGH!

But just like any HIGH you are gonna want to increase the level of potency. And it may not necessarily lead to actual drug use such crack cocaine or heroin, *but there are MANY other addictions besides that.

What is it that we are teaching our kids, these black-melanated kids, regarding their food consumption, and consumption IN GENERAL at an early age?

Let’s wise up, peoples!

Peace and Love to my melanated family,

Rest in Peace to a Prince…

From the Melanated Man:

Rarely I keep up with the entertainment news due to the reason of *WHO is in control of it. But when an major icon, a MAJOR black-melanated icon, passes away too soon that is MAJOR news in my eyes.

The artist formerly known as Prince passed away yesterday from bouts with the flu. He was ONLY 57. Some people don’t believe the flu ( or influenza) killed Prince, even though there are people who die from the flu yearly. I have heard people say that his immune system may have been weakened by an unannounced case of cancer or diabetes, with the flu pushing off the edge. He has been on record saying that he battles with *epilepsy, a very serious neurological disease that is nothing to play with.

And Prince was a *VEGETARIAN!!! REALLY?! That means he was SOMEWHAT health conscious, right?

(Which begs the question…I wonder what KIND of  vegetarian Prince really was?)

The fact that Prince had to go outside of the black-melanated community for medical care and advice is a problem. We can’t take care of ourselves.

The fact that their (Western, Caucasian medical philosophy) care and advice is considered CARE and ADVICE for us is THE PROBLEM. We don’t KNOW HOW to take care of ourselves.

People can speculate whether he was killed underhandedly by another entity and it may be a cover up of some sorts. And it may be true; we will never know.

But I can honestly see that it wouldn’t have been necessary. Prince took *MEDICATION (which is poison) so he can hurry back to touring so he please the Massa…I mean the masses. The medication could have mistakenly or unmistakably  interacted with his epilepsy and with him being alone in a elevator, he could have had a seizure with no help around and died.

That is entirely possible. We trust and lay with the enemy and their medical machinations, we perish. Sooner or later.

Just like Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, etc.,etc., etc.!!!!

All for the sake of *ENTERTAINMENT. Or shall I say *MENTAL DETAINMENT.

Working for our MASTERS; to keep our minds OCCUPIED.

Prince  wrote and sung beautiful music beloved across the globe. He was special, and shouldn’t have had to go outside of his community for medical assistance.

He fought, then gained total control of his brand. That made him an enemy to the music industry, but now an unmistakable ally with his death and the billions AND BILLIONS of dollars he is going to make them now. We shouldn’t allow our people to be used like a rag doll for another man’s survival and purpose.

Let’s keep educating ourselves people…on OURSELVES, inside AND out!

Thank you for your contribution Prince, and may the Creator bless you in the afterlife! We love you!

Peace and love to my melanated family,

The Melanated Man

Food For Thought: Read the Ingredient List!

Ingredients for Hamburger Helper

From the Melanated Man:

For those of you who only check out how many calories are in your food so you can shed some pounds, it may be best to do a double take for that ingredient list. You are doing yourself a great disservice if you don’t.

You should know at this point that I STRONGLY recommend eating foods that preferably  have ONE ingredient, which is the food itself, such as an apple or head of cabbage

ONLY THE FRESH PRODUCE BABY!

But if you HAVE to get foods in a can, carton, box, or bag, the rule of thumb is to buy prepackaged foods with NO MORE that three (3) ingredients. Most likely than not they don’t contain preservatives and additives. The task is DAMN near impossible to pull off, even with prepackaged organic foods sold at ORGANIC supermarkets. But it’s doable and you have to be CONSCIOUS of it (I’m not perfect either, but I’m improving.)

Notice the Hamburger Helper ingredient list above. It lists AT LEAST 26 ingredients, with Monosodium Glutamate (*or MSG) listed as one of them.

And you thought MSG was only in Chinese food, right?

One word of advice…DON’T TRUST FOODS WITH INGREDIENT LISTS YOU CAN’T COMPREHEND!!

Even your spices and herbs.

If you don’t have passing knowledge of chemistry, LEAVE THE SHIT ALONE!

Trust me, foods like the Hamburger Helper picture above will definitely kill you, physically AND *metaphysically.

Peace and Love to my melanated family,

What Sparked My Transformation (Part 3)

Feeling like Superman

Refer to previous posts: What Sparked My Transformation (Part 1)

What Sparked My Transformation (Part 2)

From the Melanated Man:

So now we are back in Atlanta. With this newfound knowledge and purpose for my life.

As I mentioned earlier I lost over 70 pounds on our return and my relationship with my spouse was great. I promised myself I would never revert back to the old habits that I had prior to leaving for Florida.

At this point I wasn’t eating any meat but I was still hanging on the fence about removing it totally from my diet. And I was taking in more fruits and vegetables then I ever had in my life up to this point. I was also cutting out more foods that I learned did not add but subtracted  from my health overall.   I was hovering around 200 pounds and only needed to lose 25 more pounds to reach my original goal of 175 pounds.

Regarding my job situation…

Of course I was still with my first job  and I wasn’t making any money due in part that projects were few and far in between considering the firm is young and black-owned. My manager and I were still having our conversations so my relationship and unpaid time with the firm felt like a gain because what I didn’t receive in a steady paycheck I gained with invaluable information that I wouldn’t have gained anywhere else.

(Plus I had BOTH of my children at the house, taking care of them. I have thoroughly took pleasure in being a FULL-TIME DAD. That sounds better)

Our conversations inspired my continuance to read and learn…

My knowledge-based had increased exponentially. I started off learning about how black folks should eat, and I moved on into melanin, metaphysics, and dabbling in cosmology and astrology.

At the same time I had moved away from Christianity, becoming more a FREE thinker (sorry, mom, it wasn’t working for me.)

The hobbies that I used to enjoy as a kid up into young adulthood (sports, watching TV, playing video games, and OF COURSE eating) I began to enjoy  them less and less.

I became LESS emotional about life and everything that has happened in MY life.

I became calm. My INsight became clearer. I have internal peace.

It feels goooood!

BECAUSE of this transformation that started with my weight and my eating habits, I became THIS person that I never knew existed within myself.

After an attempt to eat some home-cooked fried chicken one September afternoon (mind you after taking the 90-day fast from meat, the longest of my life) my days of consuming animal flesh were finished. My body showed me the LIGHT by taking more than 36 hours to digest it, causing me to feel sore ALL over my body the entire time (funny how I remember every single detail from that event?!)

I ran my first 5K run on Thanksgiving Day, the day a majority of black-melanated people consume themselves with extreme amount dead waste or DEATH.  I followed that up with a 10k recently this past March. I never saw myself ever doing such a thing.

My immediate AND extended family  have started to take notice of this transformation.

The first time I lost weight it did not make that much of any impact to those around me because the changes I made were not SIGNIFICANT.

Only ate less of the same shit and worked out hard as hell.

AND I didn’t lose over 100 POUNDS (and counting!) the last time either.

My peoples ask me all the time what I have done this time around that was different from last time. I tell them…

And they applaud me. As for implementing it into their own lives…nope. I love them regardless.

That let’s me know how much work that needs to be done. It gives me purpose and incentive to keep pressing on, fighting the good fight!

The more conscious I have become regarding this current paradigm of living, the more I want to implement into my own life to protect myself and the people I love. My relationships with my loved ones have been altered because of it, starting with my wife.

My wife is probably my biggest supporter regarding my transformation. She has been there from the beginning and has seen the changes that have occurred from Day 1. When I changed my eating habits it threw her for a loop because she wasn’t used to it (and still isn’t to some degree.) Plus I was the one doing all of the cooking so when my cooking habits became healthier; it caused an uproar.

In my mind I was making changes that could be beneficial for not only me but for her and the kids.

She’s a doctor. I thought THAT would make sense to her.

But doctors are human too.

In her mind, she felt like the joy was being taken away from the marriage. That was something we had in common. Something we ENJOYED  together. Now that commonality was being taken away.

Things have improved over time regarding this situation; even though at times I think she misses the old me of days past. It’s a work in progress. Now as far as the how the kids SHOULD eat and taken care of in general, that’s a another topic for another post.

One battle at a time, right?

Now this situation can applied any other of my (and yours) family members and loved ones.

Remember I am just talking about EATING THE RIGHT WAY with them.

I haven’t touched on the OTHER knowledge that I have obtained as well.

It  has led me to creating this blog. I have so much I want to share with people, especially my family and loved ones, that a conversation here and there won’t suffice.

I don’t believe that I have all of the answers to the problems that plague black-melanated folk.

I don’t believe that my perspective is the only perspective either.

But I do think there are MANY people I know and don’t know that can relate in some form or fashion on the perspective of EATING. About 99.9% of the people I know, skinny and big, have had problems with health and eating according to their biology. Although we know about the health issues plaguing the black-melanated community, we as a people still underrate it tremendously.

So I think I know a little bit about eating and being health conscious. I have the personal experience and I have been through the fire of losing weight twice. I’m confident to say I AM an expert in that arena and I can help others who need help.

But the journey BEYOND just eating according to your biology, you may not be ready for.

You may not be concerned with  learning about the pseudosciences (according to Western, Caucasian thought) of melanin, metaphysics, astrology, and cosmology  and you have this grand awakening.

You may not be willing to question the validity of religion.

You may not be ready to give up those vices that could be hindering your growth.

You may not think the powers-that-be want to destroy you INSIDE  AND OUT.

I can’t force you to see what I see. I will continue to share with you and maybe ENLIGHTENMENT will happen within yourself.

That choice is yours whether or not you you want to open your eyes (or that THIRD EYE) and go deeper down the rabbit hole.

Nevertheless I love you!

Peace and Love  to my melanated family, blood and not blood (lol!),

The Melanated Man

P.S. My current weight as I type this post is between 165-170 lbs. I think I’m shooting for 140, but to be honest my ultimate goal is to eat the way I SHOULD eat only to sustain myself. Doesn’t matter how small I get as long as I adhere to that principle.

ED vs EL: Cut Out the Middle Man! Foods Besides Animal Flesh That Contain Protein

From the Melanated Man:

Revert to this post for more information: ED vs. EL: Eating Meat, Huh?!

For those of you who are wondering about how you are going to get your protein if you don’t eat animal flesh, there are many, MANY other foods besides meat that contain the protein that you need. As I mentioned previously, where do the animals we eat get their protein from?

They don’t have this special type of protein in their muscles that is essential to our welfare. But everything is a choice.

I can’t make you stop eating meat; most people find enjoyment in eating dead blood. But I DIGRESS…

Here is a list of foods with high protein:

Vegetables

Spinach

  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Broccoli
  • Garbanzo Beans (Hummus)
  • Green Peas
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Raw Peanuts
  • Soybeans
  • Corn
  • Wheat
  • Barley
  • Millet
  • Lentils
  • Navy Beans
  • Black beans
  • Edamame
  • Quinoa
  • Almonds
  • Chia seeds
  • Amaranth
  • Artichokes
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Black-eye peas
  • Asparagus
  • Tahini
  • Sprulina

Fruits

Guava

  • Guava
  • Mulberries
  • Blackberries
  • Starfruit
  • Apricots
  • Kumquats
  • Nectarines
  • Grapefruit
  • Cantaloupe
  • Peaches
  • Raspberries
  • Passion Fruit
  • Currants
  • Strawberries
  • Pomegranate
  • Oranges
  • Watermelon
  • Kiwi fruit (Gold)
  • Jackfruit
  • Cherries
  • Honeydew melon
  • Avocado
  • Bananas

We have to do our own personal research instead of accepting everything that is given to us by our doctors, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States of Agriculture,  etc., etc. There is enough foods besides animal flesh we can eat that has the protein that we need.

I know that fried chicken is DAMNNN GOOD!! But is it worth taking years off your life? The choice is yours.

Peace and love to my melanated family,

The Melanated Man

ED vs EL: Vegetables have Life/Light as Well

From the Melanated Man:

I think most people realize that overcooking your vegetables is not ideal. I remember the broccoli that I used to eat in school would look just LIKE what is pictured to the right above.

I wonder if it was cooked that way intentionally?

All of the nutrients that are in the vegetables BEFORE they are cooked dies our when they are overcooked. So when you consume your overcooked vegetables not only does it NOT help your body but it also puts your digestive system under unnecessary stress and duress.

That’s what we call empty calories. It’s like the body is working for free: all give, no take home pay.

Eating empty calories doesn’t only apply to overcooked vegetables (*starches, anyone) but this post is focusing on that.

And the worst part about the situation is when you consume of food with empty calories, you are still HUNGRY!!

But we go back and consume more of the same overcooked vegetables…

Overcooked collard greens! I know they are good…

Sounds like your annual Thanksgiving doesn’t it?

How often do you see a fresh salad our some lightly cooked asparagus or green beans on the platter for the holidays? As Katt Williams would say, “don’t worry, I’ll wait!”

We boil our vegetables in water far too long, with MEAT and/or LARD for seasoning, as well as any other seasoning that may contain monosodium glutamate, or *MSG (no thank you on the Lawry’s.)

But hey, when are only doing what we have been taught to do, and has been passed down since slavery days. *The way we are cooking and eating is one of the most important and overlooked issues in our own ENSLAVEMENT!

But I digress. Let’s keep it simple right now; let’s get back to the overcooked vegetables.

The CANNED GOOD overcooked vegetables…

You are not doing yourself any favors by consuming these…

Empty Calorie City!!!

You might as well eat dog shit. Canned vegetables/goods have so many preservatives and additives, not to mention the  fact the food is overcooked. If you are not sure about this, let me repeat: PRESERVATIVES AND ADDITIVES THAT IS PUT IN YOUR FOOD IS NOT GOOD OR NATURAL TO YOUR BODY!

Are we really trying to kill people(*depopulate is a better word) when we have these canned food drives for the *homeless and needy?

My gut (no pun intended) is leading to me to say HELL YEAH!

From a metaphysical perspective, the vegetables contain the SUNLIGHT your body and soul needs (ever heard of photosynthesis?) The melanin that you, black-melanated man/woman, have needs that sunlight, and if you are not receiving it from the SUN itself (*which you can), you have to get it from secondary sources like your veggies.

The sun provides your vegetables ALL of the minerals and nutrients to that your body needs (PHOTOSYNTHESIS!)

(As I mentioned before, if we all we need is the sunlight for our minerals and nutrients, then are eating vegetables really that necessary? Is eating at all necessary? Just something to ponder on..)

You are doing yourself a disservice by cooking your vegetables to DEATH. We eat death, we produce dead and insignificant lives…and ultimately a dead soul.

And I repeat…WE ARE WHAT WE CONSUME!!

So if we are cooking our veggies, we can lightly saute them with a little *sea salt and with a pinch of grapeseed oil.(Personally I use olive oil for my sauteed vegetables, but I’m probably going to move away from that because its advised not to heat olive oil for it’s not good for your body. I’m learning, too.) You can steam your vegetables as well. And if you want to really get bold with it, it them raw. I have eaten some of my veggies raw and they’re not half bad. You have to RETRAIN your tastebuds to get to that point, and it takes time. This not a overnight thing.

Eat more vegetables! Let me rephrase that: eat more lightly cooked, steamed, and/or raw vegetables.

What Sparked My Transformation (Part 1)

From the Melanated Man:

For most of my young life I had a normal American childhood. Besides the fact that my parents divorced when I was 10 and I discover only a couple years after their divorce that they ADOPTED me at birth, my childhood was pretty normal.  I played my video games, watched my Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, played outside with my friends, and pretty much ate whatever the hell I wanted.

That sounds like a normal, healthy childhood right?! Maybe the playing outside in the SUN. *I had stressors just like every other American kid, so I ate to ease the stress.

I played football in middle school and high school. I played fullback and defensive tackle, so if you are not familiar with the positions, that meant I had to be a hefty boy to play that position. Plus I was lifting weights, so I thought HAD to eat a lot to obtain the energy to sustain the activity. I weighed between 260-270 pounds in high school. Some of it was muscle and most of it was fat.

Unfortunately my football talent did not transfer to the collegiate level; I carried that weight with me to college anyway. I collected that dreadful “Freshmen Fifteen”  during my freshmen and sophomore years.

And like everybody else, I thought *gaining weight was normal as you got older since our metabolism slows down as you age.

Plus, *college is stressful, especially if you’re majoring in engineering. So eating was my joy and stress reliever.

My last year in college I became semi-conscious and decided that I wanted to lose some weight. And I did; I dropped down from 275 pounds to 210 pounds around my graduation. I only ate less of the bad stuff, not totally cut it out; then I exercised more often.

I had one more year of indoctrination college, so my stress level was pretty low of course.

(Reminiscing…)

Looks scrumptious, doesn’t it?!

I used to eat your regular 3 meals a day from a child to a young adult, plus snacks. I was a growing boy. I ate the normal palette: from fried chicken to steak and ribs, from OVERCOOKED collard greens to sweet potato soufflé, from pecan pies to red velvet cakes and king sized Snickers bars. I used to LOVE some Barq’s Root Beet, especially that rare Barq’s Red Cream Soda you can only find at movie theaters. Of course I loved sweet tea as well. I would destroy all-you-can- eat buffets with ease. I WAS A GROWING BOY REMEMBER?!

…Now back to the story.

I thought I really accomplished something with that weight loss. Not to mention I was receiving my civil engineering degree at the same time. Life was good; I was on Cloud Nine.

And then it was downhill from there.

I started working for a small BLACK-OWNED civil engineering firm, alternating from office work to field work on regular occasions. At the same time I’m trying to balance a long-distance relationship with my fiancée. So the stressors of getting paid kibbles and bits as new employee, and not seeing my woman that often by eating. ENJOYING myself eating. I gain a couple pounds here and there; slowly but surely, the BIG GUY is coming back.

Two years after graduation, I technically still have a job with the firm, but work is so slow those kibbles and bits becomes almost non-existent. Not to mention my fiancée is pregnant, with two years of medical school to finish. So I continue to eat…

…ALOT…

…Another two years later, I am out of work with a fiancée, an infant child and another one on the way.

At this point, my weight had reached 290 pounds!!! Ain’t that a bitch?!

(More background on the situation…)

Just to give a better understanding of my plight at this point, not only was I not working, me and my fiancée, with our baby girl and another on the way, are living with the in-laws!

Granted my pregnant fiancée was able to finish her last year close to home AND me, but still…

I’m stuck at my in-laws’ house looking after my infant child. Needless to say, that situation contributed to my madness. Is it a cliché to dislike your in-laws?

I let the stress of my life situation, which I take 100% blame for, get the best of me (I should have foreseen my job being lost, and worn a condom to prevent further nonsense. SMH.)

I had a family that I couldn’t take care of financially. Not being able to find a job in my field was a very humbling situation. Being a Christian believer I dealt with the guilt of having children out of wedlock, which caused me a great deal of stress.

All of my relationships, old and new, were influx as well, which caused me even more stress.

My pregnant fiancée  and I  were nearly on the brink of pre-marital divorce. Also I lost beloved members from my family circle: my aunt who was a matriarch of my extended family, an uncle who served as a patriarch, and my very own dad. All of them died from heart attacks! All before retirement age, which still may be 65.There were other family members who passed as well from various illnesses that seem all to common for OUR community.

AND, my mom  was having heart issues of her own during this time.

Queue the violins…

I figured my loved ones either had bad genetic luck or were called home by Jesus Christ. I also figured they probably didn’t take care of themselves the best way they should have, but it’s only so much you can do, right?

I still didn’t connect the dots with the FOOD I was eating, or the life I was taught to live in general.

I assumed I just needed to cut down on my *calories and get back to exercising and I would gradually lose the weight as I did in college.

I needed to keep applying for jobs in my field and hopefully my luck would change. Put on that good CORPORATE WHITE act to get in the door.

I needed to learn to manage my stress better as well. People gain and lose jobs all the time. Loved ones die as they get older. Shit happens. That’s life.

“All will be well in due time,” I thought. “I have the American spirit to achieve. God still favors me.”

First, I needed a change of scenery…

to get away from the NORMAL I had been used to all of my life up to this point…

to save a marriage that had not even started yet…

raise my children the way I saw fit…

to get the HELL out of my in-laws house…

…so I can rediscover myself.

So far I have gotten more than I bargained for…

Adhering your daily diet to the principles of Ma’at

From the Melanated Man:

There are some guidelines that we can adhere to when partaking in eating food. It should help those who wish to curb the habit of unhealthy eating. It works for me and hopefully it may benefit you.

Ma’at is the Ancient Egyptian concept of truth, balance, order, law, morality, and justice who is sometimes personified as a goddess regulating the stars, seasons, and the actions of both mortals and the gods that set the order of the universe from chaos at the moment of creation. The concept can be applied to our daily diets so we can regulate and balance our consumption. You should question your emotions and reasons based on the principles of Ma’at:

Truth- Am I really hungry? Am I medicating emotions with junk foods/alcohol? Does my body need nourishment? Am I being a slave to my taste buds? Am I treating food as if it is a “slave” and my eating it as “the slave master?”

Justice- Does my choice of food give nutritional justice to my body or does it nutritionally starve my body?

Righteousness- Is the food good for God’s Temple (my body?) Is there a healthy snack I can eat instead of junk?

Harmony- How does eating junk food serve my body and benefit my wellness?

Balance- Does eating this food maintain my biochemical balance or does it cause a negative drain of energy?

Order- Does the food follow the correct order (amount) of nutrients? (6 grains, 5 fruits or vegetables, 2 proteins-vegetable/meat, 8-10 glasses of water?)

Propriety- Is the food adding to my wellness and helping me to eliminate or decrease my intake of packaged, processed, synthetic foods; dead animal flesh that are cloned, hybridized, with chemical-laced preservatives?

Compassion- Do I accept that my wellness adds to the health of my race and serves Ma’at or do I feel deprived when I do not eat junk foods?

Reciprocity- Am I using food to commit suicide, to punish myself, or to maintain low self-esteem or am I using it to reward myself? Does this food ultimately cause dis-ease or wellness?

Peace and love to my melanated family,

The Melanated Man
