Food for Thought: Foods in Season

vegetable-garden-1

From the Melanated Man:

(I know…ANOTHER food post…)

Recently I started my own vegetable garden. Very interesting experience I can tell you that. And fun as well. I put down some squash, zucchini, corn, Swiss chard, field peas (black-eyed peas), watermelon, cantaloupe, and some herbs and spices. These crops are best suited to grow this time of year; obviously these are the crops that will have ALL the nutrients that it needs, are fully matured, and will more than likely become RIPE aka sweet.

There are crops that are suited best for fall and winter harvest (most of your green veggies) and there are crops that are best suited for spring and summer harvest (most of your fruits.)

So my question is how in the HELL are grocery stores and farmer’s markets able to sell food that is NOT IN SEASON?

The quick answer would be that these crops were probably imported from other parts of the United States and/or from countries within the Southern Hemisphere, which experience seasons in reverse to those in the Northern Hemisphere. Which makes sense…

But what is the consequences of eating crops in an ENVIRONMENT that is not fit to yield that crop during the time when it’s NOT IN SEASON THERE?

What are the effects to the BODY, MIND, and SOUL that occurs when this takes place?

Will you able to get ALL of the benefits of the crops during that time?

When it comes to BUYING produce from third parties instead of self-gardening, we figure that if it’s available and we have a taste for it at that particular moment, what harm will come to us besides PESTICIDES and/or GMOs?

It’s FRESH PRODUCE, and we need our FRUITS and VEGETABLES, right? That’s what I’ve been preaching, right?

There is a possibility that certain produce are NOT to be consumed during certain times of the year depending on where you are on the planet.

It may not kill you, but it also may not benefit you as well.

Something to think about.

Random Thought: Proverbs 22:6

From the Melanated Man:

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Proverbs 22:6

One of the most well known verses in the Bible canon.

And one of the truest!

It says “train up a child in the way he SHOULD go”; the problem is that many of us black-melanated folks don’t know the way he (or she) should GO. That verse works both ways as well.

We have been teaching our kids the way of the Massa when it comes to eating, education, gender roles, relationships, ENTERTAINMENT, basic day-to-day living…you name it. Black-melanated people have properly been FUCKED over by this training for hundreds of years and we DAMN sure have not “departed from it.”

It has worked to PERFECTION! I told you the Bible is valid in the proper context.

We’re hooked. It basically comes down to HABITS.

WE MUST LEARN (RE-LEARN!) HABITS THAT ARE BENEFICIAL TO OUR PROSPERITY!!!

By now we should understand what those HABITS are; they have been BEATEN into our skulls by many, many teachers, preachers (the honest ones!), and leaders of the past and present!

If you’re fuzzy on it, check out my reading list for starters.

Anyone else have suggestions of reading material on BLACK LIBERATION or REAL BLACK HISTORY, let me know. I need to add to my list, and catch up on some reading also!!!

Food for Thought: Susannah Mushatt Jones

SusannahMushattJones1

From the Melanated Man:

Susannah Mushatt Jones of New York City (born in Lowndes County, Alabama) died on May 12, 2016 at the ripe age of 116 years old! She was born in 1899! That is remarkable!

And she was Black.

She was only two generations removed from slavery times.

I can’t imagine that. The things she could have seen and experienced during her time living. A fellow blogger that I follow did a quick review post on her that is good; here’s the link.

She has a Wikipedia page as well that is worth a read as well; here’s the link.

There was a excerpt in the Wikipedia page that really caught my attention:

“Jones was blind and partially deaf; she could not say much and she used a wheelchair. She only took high-blood pressure medication and a multivitamin. She became legally blind when she was 100. She refused cataract surgery or a recommended pacemaker and never had a mammogram or a colonoscopy….She slept about ten hours a night and napped throughout the day. For breakfast, she always ate four strips of bacon along with scrambled eggs and grits. She also ate bacon throughout the day.

So Ms. Jones experienced what many elderly men and women experience in their latter years with blindness, hypertension, etc., *considered protocol in Western civilization. What’s funny is that she ate FOUR strips of bacon with EGGS and more than likely WHITE grits every morning, then ate bacon AGAIN throughout the day.

Did she start eating this as she got older?

Has she eaten this type of food for the ENTIRETY of her life?

Was the bacon (pig) and eggs (chicken) farm-raised and the grits yellow (grounded corn, NATURAL form)?

No one is asking these questions. And they are VERY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS.

Now granted it does state that she slept for TEN HOURS and took naps frequently throughout the day. We know that lack of *adequate and beneficial sleep causes health issues as well. Also, she had no kids and was only married once, for not a long period; depending on what type of person you are it can be a *stressful OR rewarding experience.

But again, did that amount of sleep occur during her latter years when she was retired (more than likely) or ALL throughout her life? It’s not clear.

This type of MISINFORMATION can cause people to think that it doesn’t matter what you do health wise, it all comes down to genetic luck and/or GOD’S WILL (*for those who think the Creator has a certain time designated for everyone to die.) I have to admit, when I read about Ms. Jones, I started to think that luck had alot in play, given the fact that her family lineage has a history of long life.

I’ve come to understand that long life means NOTHING if you haven’t done anything with it, such as personal growth and inspiring others to do the same. That’s my personal opinion.

At the same time while we are living this life we have to stay in tip top shape to make the days we live meaningful and fruitful. How are you going to improve and grow when you are constantly DIS-EASED and COMPRISED with ARTIFICIAL AND UNNATURAL CONSUMPTION???

It’s still IMPORTANT what you put into your mouth (and MIND!) and how it affects you over the long run. It’s still IMPORTANT how much exercise and activity you do on a daily basis.

Whether you realize it or not, life is not meant to live for the moment.

You take it one day at a time, one week at a time, one month at a time, one year at a time…and it ADDS UP. Your life is THEN summed up through the MILLIONS of moments you’ll have.

Hopefully the SUM IS POSITIVE (for you math geeks!)

You don’t want to look back and realize your life was filled with EMPTY moments and no REAL GROWTH (besides your waistline) beyond the MATERIAL REALM.

That’s called being in the NEGATIVE (or red for the economist.)

When reading articles like this, with your CONSCIOUS mind, with your *THIRD EYE…look deeper.

And I’m talking to myself as well on this one!

R.I.P. Ms. Jones!

A Did You Know? Reblog: #BlackVegansRock: 100 Black Vegans to Check Out

Aph Ko's avatarStriving with Systems

I am treating this piece as a performance art piece, not a blog post. Each time someone from the animal rights/vegan community wants to write an article about how white the animal rights/vegan movement is, I hope that they choose one person from this list to write an article about instead.

This list is not in any particular order, and it is not meant to be completely exhaustive. Additionally, I can’t guarantee that everyone on this list is still vegan, though they were at the time of my research. I acquired this information simply by researching online and asking around. Also, I must note that I personally don’t think eating a plant-based diet automatically means that you’re a political activist or animal rights activist. As I said in a previous post “Veganism without politicization only yields de-contexualized diets.”

Nevertheless, this list is meant to serve as a statement for anyone who says “veganism is…

Did you know: Tassilli’s Raw Reality

Tassili’s Raw Reality

From the Melanated Man:

I said I was going to cut back on the food posts for a minute.

I got to sneak this one in though (lol!)

I visited this vegan restaurant recently in the historic West End of Atlanta  and I have to tell you…it was OFF THE CHARTS!!

Now granted, most of my followers are meat-eaters to the core and I completely understand the love for the animal flesh. I was RIGHT THERE with you a time ago.

BUT…vegetarian or vegan food can be flavorful (WITH ITS NATURAL FLAVOR!) as well if you prepare it right.

And this place can prepare it JUST RIGHT! I had a kale wrap that was just DELICIOUS!

Mouth-watering wrap with kale, couscous, olives, etc. MMMMMMMM!

Then I topped it off with some…

Melanin Magic Mix! Yeah, really!

It was gon point as well. Also, I had popcorn and a vegan brownie as well that were pretty tasty in their own right.

Not to mention the restaurant is BLACK-OWNED (The Melanin Magic Mix should have been a dead givaway.)

These kind of experiences let me know that there are others that have a similar mindframe when it comes to eating and health, especially within black-melanted communities such as the West End.

I AM TRULY IN-SPIRED!

We need to embrace (and patronize) these establishments more often and take notes on how to implement this type of diet into our lives, the one I have been ADVOCATING for!!!

Let’s become the CHANGE we seek WITHIN OURSELVES!!

WARNING: Tom’s of Maine “Natural” Toothpaste contains MSG…

From the Melanated Man:
Connecting  to my previous post ED vs EL: What is Monosodium Glutamate (or MSG?) , I want to advise anyone who is using this PARTICULAR brand of toothpaste that it contains MSG in it. Don’t be fooled by the “Natural” label because it’s FAR from it.

The culprits within the inactive ingredient list:

-“natural flavor”

-carrageenan

Commercial toothpaste such as these will enhance your tastebuds to consume the sweets (artificial sweets, WHITE SUGAR) that we are hooked on, keeping dentists in business.

It would probably be in your best interest to ditch ALL commercial toothpaste and go homemade. Don’t pay any attention to what they are advertising on the product.

If you didn’t make it, PLEASE ALWAYS BE SKEPTICAL OF IT!

If you REFUSE to do-it-yourself, I would recommend Dr. Sebi’s brand of toothpaste, even though it may be pricey.

It’s $25, but probably worth it!

I’m going to personally lookup some recipes for homemade toothpaste and will share them with you in the future.

In the meantime, STAY CONSCIOUS!

Food for Thought: Making a Correlation Between the Real World and “Theme Parks”

From the Melanated Man:

Been on hiatus for a week due to reasons obvious to those who know me personally (lol.) I should be on hiatus STILL; trying to get my bearings back up to speed. I didn’t want get too rusty though.

Today I’m going straight to the point. Here goes.

We’ve all been to theme parks, county fairs, circuses, etc., right?

We ride the rides, play the games, watch various shows and demonstrations, AND eat the high priced food that is offered as well.

First we pay an ENTRANCE FEE to enter  and in SOME INSTANCES we have to pay for the activities BEFORE we can participate.

We BUY into this REALITY or SYSTEM (what a double whammy, huh?)

All for our ENJOYMENT.

Does this sound like everyday life to you?

It does to me.

If you think about the obvious connection through *entertainment, we pay for our:

-Cable TV, online video games, gambling, etc.

-Music concerts, comedy shows, sports events, movies, etc.,

-Dinner at fancy and semi-fancy restaurants, hanging at clubs and lounges, etc…

The list goes on and on.

AND we don’t spend arcade or Chuck E. Cheese  coins on this MADNESS, we use our hard-earned money (*is there really a difference between the two?)

This sort of behavior applies to the more mundane things such as:

-Paying your regular bills (*when did cell phones become a utility?),

-Paying for groceries that are 99.9% likely to KILL YOU SOFTLY than sustain you,

-Paying for that 5-bed 4-bathroom “mansion” with a white picket fence,

-Paying for that luxury vehicle (or your regular minivan) you drive to work to keep up appearances,

-Paying your kids’ indoctrination, sorry I mean college tuition, as well as the many loans you took out to pay for YOURS from 15-20 years ago!!!

Again…the list goes on and on!

AND…For what?

To keep up with the Joneses?

Have we been so drugged down with so much UNNATURAL FOOD, *DEADLY MEDICATIONS, and *FALSE RELIGION to escape this circus?

Are we too AFRAID to walk our OWN path, BLACK PEOPLE?

One would THINK  we would at some point want to leave the circus or theme park or whatever.

Or more aptly, the PLANTATION!

We should OUTGROW these devices, put our childish things away, and grow the FUCK up!

Learn how to take care of OURSELVES and get past the *LOW-VIBRATION activities concerning ENTERTAINMENT.

But we are FAR from that. Still we are consumed with a CHILD’s mindset.

And the funny thing is we are SUBCONCIOUSLY teaching our kids this pattern of behavior.

(Don’t worry, I’m guilty as well.)

Think about that the next time you take your kids to Chuck E. Cheese or Dave and Busters!

The Melanated Man

Having a Moment 4.25.16…

From the Melanated Man:

It is me or has there been  so much that has happened in past 4-5 days in the world? Something feels different in the air (*and I’m not talking about chemtrails.) Something feels off. You have these entertainers dying off (Prince, WWE wrestler Chyna, now R&B crooner Billy Paul), “revolutionary” albums being secretly dropped (Lemonade, anyone?), not to mention Harriet Tubman being placed on the $20 bill (is THAT really revolutionary?), and the wacky Presidential Primaries.

All within the middle of NBA (and small-time NHL) playoffs!!!

What’s up with all these DISTRACTIONS? All at the same time?

What are the powers-that-be cooking up behind the scenes to try to sneak under the noses of the masses? Or has it already happened?

This isn’t the first time a bunch of major events has happened all at the same time, but now, just speaking for myself, I have become hip to the MATRIX so I realize that what I see in mainstream news are DISTRACTIONS!!!!Everything that happened recently in the news that would  be considered major news besides the Harriet Tubman issue and the Presidential Primaries is within the *ENTERTAINMENT realm (or MENTAL DETAINMENT.)

What has entertainment done for black-melanated people besides having us shucking and jiving for the masses and placing the masses (and ourselves) in a coma mentally and spiritually?

Does placing Harriet Tubman on a $20 bill mean there is TRUE progress? Or is it a ruse?

Does the presidential election really matter for blacks in general (or everyone else for that matter?) Or is the president election a production produced by the wizard(s) behind the scenes?

I’m sorry. I’m having a moment…

ED vs EL: Parent-approved holidays for Child Drug Use

Just Say NO!

From The Melanated Man:

This is going to be short and sweet like *sugar. Yes sugar.

White sugar.

This post is sort of the prelude to the in-depth discussion I will have on sugar later. But have you wondered how people have addictions, for instance drug addictions, later in their adult life? Well it starts at an young age.

Like when you are baby.

Sugar is a government-approved drug just like *caffeine and aspartame. Any substance extracted from it’s natural and intended plant is a DRUG. That’s a little preview to the post on sugar that is on the way. Something to think on.

And as parents we let our kids have free reign to all of the chocolate, candy, cakes, AND sweet beverages they can get their hands, especially these times of the year:

Their Birthdays

Easter

Halloween

Thanksgiving

Christmas

Mardi Gras (for those familiar with it from Mobile, AL)

…AND every other day when we want to keep them quiet or when they have done something good.

We figure it’s OK to allow our child to partake of some treats ( or tricks!) so they can get a ARTIFICIAL HIGH!

But just like any HIGH you are gonna want to increase the level of potency. And it may not necessarily lead to actual drug use such crack cocaine or heroin, *but there are MANY other addictions besides that.

What is it that we are teaching our kids, these black-melanated kids, regarding their food consumption, and consumption IN GENERAL at an early age?

Let’s wise up, peoples!

Rest in Peace to a Prince…

From the Melanated Man:

Rarely I keep up with the entertainment news due to the reason of *WHO is in control of it. But when an major icon, a MAJOR black-melanated icon, passes away too soon that is MAJOR news in my eyes.

The artist formerly known as Prince passed away yesterday from bouts with the flu. He was ONLY 57. Some people don’t believe the flu ( or influenza) killed Prince, even though there are people who die from the flu yearly. I have heard people say that his immune system may have been weakened by an unannounced case of cancer or diabetes, with the flu pushing off the edge. He has been on record saying that he battles with *epilepsy, a very serious neurological disease that is nothing to play with.

And Prince was a *VEGETARIAN!!! REALLY?! That means he was SOMEWHAT health conscious, right?

(Which begs the question…I wonder what KIND of  vegetarian Prince really was?)

The fact that Prince had to go outside of the black-melanated community for medical care and advice is a problem. We can’t take care of ourselves.

The fact that their (Western, Caucasian medical philosophy) care and advice is considered CARE and ADVICE for us is THE PROBLEM. We don’t KNOW HOW to take care of ourselves.

People can speculate whether he was killed underhandedly by another entity and it may be a cover up of some sorts. And it may be true; we will never know.

But I can honestly see that it wouldn’t have been necessary. Prince took *MEDICATION (which is poison) so he can hurry back to touring so he please the Massa…I mean the masses. The medication could have mistakenly or unmistakably  interacted with his epilepsy and with him being alone in a elevator, he could have had a seizure with no help around and died.

That is entirely possible. We trust and lay with the enemy and their medical machinations, we perish. Sooner or later.

Just like Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, etc.,etc., etc.!!!!

All for the sake of *ENTERTAINMENT. Or shall I say *MENTAL DETAINMENT.

Working for our MASTERS; to keep our minds OCCUPIED.

Prince  wrote and sung beautiful music beloved across the globe. He was special, and shouldn’t have had to go outside of his community for medical assistance.

He fought, then gained total control of his brand. That made him an enemy to the music industry, but now an unmistakable ally with his death and the billions AND BILLIONS of dollars he is going to make them now. We shouldn’t allow our people to be used like a rag doll for another man’s survival and purpose.

Let’s keep educating ourselves people…on OURSELVES, inside AND out!

Thank you for your contribution Prince, and may the Creator bless you in the afterlife! We love you!

Peace and love to my melanated family,

The Melanated Man
